Morgan Motor Company was founded in 1909 by Henry Fredrick Stanley Morgan. Morgan Motor Co. has become one of the oldest privately owned car manufacturers in the whole world. Their manufacturing takes place in Malvern, Worcestershire, England. There they specialize in the manufacturing of handcrafted sportscars with modern technology on the inside but a classic look on the outside. They are known for their traditional methods to manufacture cars. Their ash wood frames are one of their most noticeable trademarks.
What Does It Take To Manufacture a Morgan?
When it comes to making a Morgan this is the process they follow...
1. They obtain their chaises from another company.
2. They put the wiring and electronics into the car frame.
3. They add the panels and wood that were shaped in-house.
4. The Morgan then travels to the paint shop.
5. Then they add the interior of the Morgan.
6. They perform any touch-ups and even take the car for a spin!
What is super crazy is that all of these steps are done by human hands. There was no automation in the manufacturing plant except for one embroidery machine. Morgan prides itself on creating handcrafted cars that are made by humans. These people study through apprenticeships at the Morgan factory to learn the tricks of the trade. Because the cars are handcrafted Morgan can get away with charging a steeper price which takes care of the money lost from not having automation in their manufacturing process.
Compared To The Big Guys
Morgan prides itself on not using the assembly line manufacturing style which is used in many car manufacturing plants today. In addition, many of our cars today were put together by machines. Morgan brings in the craftsmanship and mastery of skills that a machine cannot mimic. When you look at a Morgan you are looking at someone's hard work and someone's story.
